I want a house

I can't believe it's almost August already!! The summer is flying by and we haven't even had any sweltering hot days yet. Now that the sunshine is back, it's been very nice around here. My sister, her bf, TB and I spent last week at the beach. We rented a house in a small seaside town 90 minutes from the city. We packed up the dog and a ton of other shit and headed down on the 4th of July. It was wonderful! The weather was perfect. The house was 1 block from the beach with views of the bay and was very nice. It had a huge fenced in yard where we spent a ton of time barbecuing and hanging out. It was so nice to have our own outdoor space. Every morning The Boy and I would wake up and take the dog for a walk along the water while it was still cool and quiet and peaceful then make coffee and sit out in the yard and just relax. It was so perfect. I don't think I've spent a week just relaxing in a long time. Even our last beach vacay to Jamaica was filled with stress from my mother lol. We've always had balconies or porches with our previous apartments and I never really missed them until now. Our apartment now is awesome, but there is no private outdoor space.

After coming home, we both were a bit sad to be back. Back to the grind of walking the dog on busy streets. Back to the noise. Back to the balcony-less apartment. So, we hopped on the computer and started looking at houses. We quickly realized we couldn't afford a damn thing in our area. Unless we wanted a one bedroom condo that needed a major overhaul, we were pretty much out of luck. Even when we considered upping our price range, property taxes quickly cut us back down. To be able to get a nice starter home with the thing we want, we need to start looking 1.5-2 hours outside of the city or in a neighboring state. So depressing. Since that's not going to happen, we decided to start saving. With any leftover wedding money (after we pay off remaining credit cards) we plan to start our house fund! It's a good step and I'm excited.

BTW, we're getting married 3 months from today.

Ugg...buying a house sucks and is so expensive. You have to have at least 20%, which in reality, in our towns that we live in, is at least 100,000 bucks. How has that type of money! And those aren't even turn key houses....

We just started renovations and eek....getting a cheaper house on the market doesn't really mean cheaper...

But I do love our space and backyard and such. Save from the wedding and start saving!

yeah.. property taxes are a BITCH!

we're thinking of moving next year, since the property taxes are so high here. I pay 4400 CANADIAN for my property taxes, and my friend lives in another town, his house is twice the size of mine, and he pays 200 LESS.. so if we move, were moving east a bit...
