A few days ago, I went to my local mall to kill some time and do some damage to my plastic :-) I wandered into the shoe department at Nordstrom (okay, okay, I deliberately walked there) and was browsing the displays. I find a pair of super cute flats and proceed to try them on. As I'm doing the "pace in front of the mirror to see them from all angles" maneuver, a black couple wander over and stands nearby. Now I must mention their race in order for you to understand my point. The man gestures to the shoes I have on and says to his girlfriend/wife "what about those?" To which she replies all annoyed, "How many times do I have to tell you, some things look better on CLEAR SKINNED people then they would on us!"
At this point, I froze where I stood with my mouth hanging open. Could I have just heard that correctly? Did she just call me a "clear skinned" person? I immediately whipped out my phone and called TB. Me: Is clear skinned another way of calling someone white? Him: What the hell are you talking about? Me: I didn't think so.
So it appears that white folk are now also in the same category as clear people, as in people you can't even see because you can SEE THROUGH them. Interesting.
In other news I did buy the shoes and they are fab....

I just spit my tea out! This is hilarious!!
Now, I think I am on the up-n-up with racist remarks (not something I am proud of just a fact bc of the environment I work in) and I NEVER heard of that before. I will ask my kids when they get back to school.
That's pretty funny though.
At least you didn't bring up the effin chimp cartoon. So over it already!
Hahahaha.
If she didn't like the shoes she could have said that. Because I think that those shoes can look great on any skincolour person.
Maybe she was talking about your beautiful, glowing acne free skin. Lol. You must use Proactive right? Lol.
Some people have no filter between brain and mouth. I should know, I work with them all.
Hot shoes though.
