Down that road before...the explanation

In looking over my recent posts, I realized that I said the phrase "we've been down that road before" in reference to a particular situation twice recently and yet, never explained. So here is the explanation.

The Boy and I moved back to NYC from VA about a year and a half ago. A month after we moved home was our anniversary. Since we are not married and do not actually have a real anniversary date or anything, we celebrate the first weekend in October. It was a good medium from the time we started hanging out and the first time he told me he loved me. Every year, we take turns being the person responsible for the plans. That particular year, TB was in charge. He told me to wear comfy clothes and what time to be ready. That was all I was allowed to know. I woke up that Saturday morning and got ready. We got in the car complete with a cooler full of stuff. I was so intrigued and excited!! I'm very hard to surprise and I really had no clue what was going on. After about an hour or so on the road, I realize we are headed to this historic mountain house in the country. I had been DYING to go there for so long! I was so excited!!!

We parked the car, and headed out to tour the grounds. The Boy grew up not far from the location and knew his way around fairly well. The mountain house is now a full service hotel and spa and was just absolutely gorgeous. It sits on a lake on top of a mountain and overlooks a valley. Jeez that sounds like bad poetry doesn't it? But it really is so picturesque and perfect. We hiked up a small trail to a tiny gazebo on the cliff side. There we sat, overlooking the lake and ate our picnic lunch. It was so perfect. We spent the rest of the day hiking and just hanging out and enjoying the weather and turning leaves. I really do love autumn in upstate New York. During the day, we came across a wedding in a field surrounded by the trees and it became decided that we would get married there one day. Before we left, The Boy surprised me with a 90 minute aroma therapy massage in the spa. Like I said, just a perfect day. We even made an appointment to come back and tour the wedding sites the following month.

Now I should make it known, that we are the type of people that tour open houses just because. We take house tours in rich neighborhoods for fun. We tour condos in the Trump building pretending to be rich just for fun. So taking the wedding tour even though we were not engaged was not too weird. We were curious. So off we went to our appointment. We saw all the sites and options as well as the reception room. Then it came time to sit down with the coordinator. We worked out our story beforehand (as we always do) and told her we weren't looking to be married until fall of 2008. The coordinator tells us that she has the perfect day in October available right at the peak of the foliage change. (Seriously, autumn in upstate NY is so gorgeous.) I thank her, but kindly decline, siting our other (completely made up) appointments at other (completely made up) venues. She is in the middle of saying she understands when The Boy jumps in and says that we should hold the date. WHAT!? He says that since we are not required to leave a deposit at this time, he would like to hold the date in order to receive the first right of refusal. I was shocked! He was soo going against the plan. He held the date and we left. I didn't say much, but inside I was on cloud nine. He was actually planning our wedding!! That excitement lasted all of a month when it all started going down hill.....
