Type II SLAP...in the face

Some time in December, I woke up and my shoulder hurt. I figured I slept on it funny. I usually sleep with my arm up under my pillow. A few days later, it still hurt. I tried sleeping differently. A few weeks later, it still hurt. It wasn't terrible pain, but I felt it a lot when putting on a shirt or anything else that required me to put my arm up over my head. I wasn't really too concerned about it though. It really was nothing terrible and didn't even hurt all the time. Fast Forward to a few weeks ago. It was Sunday and I was about to cook dinner. I reached into the cabinet to pull out a pot when all of a sudden, my arm felt strange. Nothing popped or pulled or shot pain, it just felt odd all of a sudden. Randomly, I had tingling in my fingers. Also, anything I tried to pick up felt like it weighed a ton, even my cell phone. Finally, I decided it was time to go to the doctor.

I went to my orthopedist. They took x rays. Nothing. Sent me for an MRI and we finally got an answer. A Type II SLAP tear of the labrum. They might as well have spoken to me in another language. It was then translated into lay man terms as an injury that mostly occurs in professional athletes like, pitchers, quarterbacks and tennis players. Hi, I don't play any of these. It is a tear of the cover of the joint and type 2 means that my bicep is also ripping off. Lovely right? It gets better....do you want to know how I think I did this to myself? Wii. That's right, Wii. I'm a tad bit competitive and I think I may have just torn this thing in my shoulder playing a freaking video game.

I cannot even believe I am going to have surgery to repair my shoulder after a Wii related injury. Only me. My father decided he was going to tell people I was playing in a softball tournament. I guess video games are a tad too embarrassing for him lol. I'm in physical therapy for the next few weeks in order to strengthen the surrounding muscles and go back to the doc on March 30 and find out what's what in regards to surgery. 6 weeks in a sling and then I get to start PT all over again. Did I mention this is my right arm? I am right handed :-(

In other news, The Boy is not mad at me! I said my apologies and let him be and lo and behold, we're all okay. We had a wonderful weekend and yesterday he came home and gave me a card. It was so cute. It had a cartoon on the front of a girl picking flowers and then it starts to rain and her boy comes out with an umbrella and they stand under it together holding hands. When you open the card it says.. "I love you....Rain or Shine." Awwwwww. I love that man.

Okay enough sappiness. I'm off to pretend I'm working.

Its just one thing after another with you!!! lol

I TOTALLY had that happen to me but it was a slight tear and it fixed its self...it was in the tendon in my forearm somewhere. I did it playing Wii boxing! I realized something was wrong when I couldn't close my hand around my beer. Or lift. HAHA I feel your pain but yours is MUCH worse!

Feel better!

Penny - you had a fondue party!? How would you feel about a trip to Woodbury Commons?

Jatorade - Seriously, 2009 has not been nice to me so far! And be careful with that Wii...apparently they should come with a hazard warning!
