Blahhhh work in the cold sucks... and so do holidays.

So I am back from my little beach holiday and I am depressed. It is freaking cold up here. I really believe that I am meant to be a warm weather girl. The Boy and I have been throwing around places we may like to move to when he is done with grad school. San Diego is on the top of our list, even though we have never been there haha. First, we will have to visit...preferably like tomorrow cause I am too damn freezing.

Anyhoo, yesterday was Easter and it sucked. My mother's family gets together for all the holidays at my Grandma's house. It used to be fun when we were kids, but since my Aunt passed almost 2 years ago, the holidays just suck. My mother's brother lives out west, so it's usually just my mother, my sister and I and my aunt, her husband and 3 kids plus my grandparents. Since, my aunt passed, the family has kind of fell apart and one of her kids is away rebuilding his life. My two other cousins still come and so does their dad (my uncle by marriage). He is a giant pain in the butt. Don't get me wrong, he is a very nice man, but he has no idea what is appropriate table conversation. Now before I give you the highlights of the day, let me mention that my Grandfather suffers from either dementia or Alzheimers. We can't be sure, because he refuses to go to the doctor, but he has been slowing losing memories over the past few years. This year's dinner included 2 cousins, my uncle, my grandparents, my mother and sister and The Boy.

We all sit down for dinner and as if on cue, Grandpa takes one look around the table and asks the same question he has asked every holiday since my Aunt passed......."who are we missing?" Everyone quickly answers nobody and changes the subject in hopes that he won't notice. We are swallowing out first course trying to keep things light for my youngest cousin who is still just a pre teen when Grandpa turns to Grandma and asked for the phone so he can call his mother. Grandma tries to discreetly inform him that she passed years ago as did his father. Grandpa starts crying, the cousins mistake this exchange thinking he was asking for their mother and run from the table in tears. Fun times! My sister and I each head off to a cousin and try to help. Once everyone is back to the table, my sister and I head to the kitchen and she tells me that the youngest one just asked her to take her to the cemetary, because she has not been there since the funeral. So after dinner, my sister and cousin sneak off. By now, Grandma has had a few glasses of wine and is getting a little pushy, Grandpa is so distraught that his parents are passed and he "didn't know." My uncle is babbling about some ballroom dancing he is taking and how skinny is getting and my mother is just being her usual guilt tripping obnoxious self. Needless to say, I want to run for my life!!!!

When my sis and cuz get back, we sit down for dessert. Uncle is asking Sis how Cuz handled the cemetary and then finds this an appropriate time to discuss just how much my Aunt's plot cost!!! Now his oldest daughter goes beserk and they are fighting which ends in everyone storming off. Woo Hooo. This is why I love the holidays. I think I need another vacation from yesterday alone. I hope everyone else had a more pleasant Easter.

On the plus side, my Mom still makes a killer Easter Basket!!!
